Halloween Edition

Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday. There is nothing better than dressing up and pretending to be someone you're not all night long. Now, with so many Halloween parties, the dressing up lasts many weekends in a row, giving even more time to enjoy this awesome holiday!

During this time, celebrities costumes are constantly praised, criticized, and ridiculed. Here are some of my favorite and least favorite costumes. Happy Halloween, Dolls!

Paris Hilton's costume was on point. I love when celebrities dress as other celebrities and considering how Miley Cyrus is talk of all the town, it was right on trend. Bravo!

Throwback Halloween but I just LOVE this costume. Jasmine was always my fav Disney princess and I dressed as her multiple times growing up. Plus Kim's body is amazing at this point.

Okay, I might have a slight woman-crush on Kim K, but this poison ivy costume is a great one. I love the red hair with the green. It fits her body well and she looks fierce!

Chelsea Handler cracks me up. She dressed up as a preggo woman. I love her humor!

Jwoww and Snooki left their old ways and went a little more conservative this year. Guess they really are growing up and they look gorgeous.

Alessandra Ambrosio looked gorgeous. There's just something about bright red hair that I love!

Ryan Seacrest went for an easier costume but still looks great in his nice suit.

Matt Lauer, Carmen Electra and Willie Geist dressed up as characters from Baywatch. Now, that's just funny. I loved that show. Matt makes a great Pamela Anderson!

Ewww Miley. You do not look anything like Lil' Kim besides the hideous purple onesie? Is that what it is? It's too revealing and not flattering for Miley. Embarassing!!!

I just had to include this picture in this post. Being a broadcast major, I like anything that spices up the information delivery. The host of Fox and Friends rocked Duck Dynasty beards on set.

Martha Stewart tried to pull of Glinda the good witch, but she may have missed her mark. To me, she looks like a ball of pink, lacey cotton candy. Nice try, Martha.

Julianne Hough caused quite a stir when she showcased her costume as Crazyeyes from the Netflix show Orange is the New Black. Many people called her costume racist, but seeing interviews with Julianne, I am certain she didn't mean any harm by it.

My favorite costume every year is Ellen Degeneres! She always has the funniest/best costumes! She pulled of Nicki Minaj quite wonderfully! Hilarious!

The pet costumes this year were adorable! I love this Meowdonna costume! Too funny!

Super Poms! Pomeranians are my favorite dogs and these costumes were way too cute not to post!

Over-the-Knee Boots

Over-the-knee boots were very poplar in the 60's and 70's but went out of style after that. They reappeared in the movie "Pretty Women" in the 90's and this trend is here to stay.

I, personally, am setting out to find my perfect OTK boots next week. I love how these look and they are perfect for fall. I will keep you updated about my journey.

Worn the right way, these boots can be a great addition to your outfit. They are practically a staple in every celebrity's closet this fall.

Here are some right ways to wear these boots:

Thunder Style

Kevin Durant, Thunder.
Russell Westbrook, Thunder.
I'd like to take this post to discuss OKC's one and only Thunder team. I was extremely happy to learn that Oklahoma would be introducing an NBA team back in 2008. I was quick to realize just how unique our players liked to dress when they weren't on the court.

Russell Westbrook is the most known with his unique fashion choices and he was talk of the town when he showed up in his fish and hook shirt with the red glasses. I love how Westbrook isn't scared to be criticized and I love the bright colors that he often chooses to incorporate in outfits. Kevin Durant has been spotted some rather different fashion trends as well. He seems to favor comfortable sweaters as well as rocking a tailored suit every now and then. Serge Ibaka also enjoys expressing himself through some different fashion choices.

Whether you love it or hate it, these boys are unique on and off the court.

Bow Tie Epidemic

Shayan and I at the wedding.
Well, I'd like to take a minute to discuss an epidemic that seems to be sweeping the nation... The bow tie epidemic. Have you taken a look around lately and noticed all of the people sporting bow ties? Well, so have I.

I really began thinking about this topic a few weeks ago when my boyfriend decided to wear a bow tie to a wedding we were going to (pictured right). I realized how much I loved the look on him. It's adorable and practically anyone can pull it off! Slightly nerdy, yet classy at the same time, the bow tie has been around for a long time. Whether it's a casual look or formal look, the bow tie pulls any outfit together for a posh finish. Stylists will agree, the bow tie is this season's must-have. Even you women can pull off this cute trend, so don't be scared.

Leopard Print.

One of my absolute favorite prints is leopard print. I own leopard print scarves, jackets, skirts, dresses, and even bed sheets. I just love it all.

Don't put your leopard print clothing and accessories away because Glamour Magazine and NY Magazine have said that leopard print, and animal print in general, will still be hot this fall. My favorite way to wear it is as a scarf (pictured left) or shoes. A little bit of leopard can be sexy, but just make sure you don't over do it or else you'll be looking like a Snooki wannabe.

Dr. Kurt Hochenauer.

Today, we have Dr. Kurt Hochenauer as a guest speaker in my blogging class. His blog, Okie Funk--Notes From the Outback, has been recognized nationally as a great blog over politics. I will list below some of Dr. Hochenauer's history and words of wisdom for a successful blog.
  • Got started in 2002 when he became very politically active in his writing. Started writing for the Oklahoma Observer which is a publication of liberal politics. Started writing for various other places online. There was very limited numbers of liberal blogs in Oklahoma at the time. Started the blog in 2004. Felt there was a need for this type of blog in Oklahoma.
  • "I almost felt like it was a responsibility." Dr. Hochenauer on why he started this Liberal blog. He felt driven to do it. He felt he was qualified and able to do it.
  • His blog has been cited in The New York Times.
  • He is a former journalist. Knew he could be consistent and consistently write on his blog. Has another blog called Blue Oklahoma which is more of a community driven blog.
  • Averaging about 15,000 viewers per month in the beginning. It was the only type of blog of its kind at the time because a majority of Oklahomans are conservative.
  • Has his blog, writes for the Gazette, occasionally writes for other publications. He is also an English professor at the University of Central Oklahoma.
  • Averaging about 3,000 visitors per month right now. It fluctuates.
  • He writes about 3 times a week. Writes on Monday, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
  • Sits in his recliner, drinking coffee, while he writes.
  • This is a journalistic type of blog. Comes up with ideas after seeing other types of material over the same subjects. He is constantly looking for ideas. When he thinks of something, he will make a list of ideas for his blog. Frequently reads the news. Sometimes people will email or request that he writes about something.
  • He really likes a series of articles he wrote called "Rebels with a Cause" over Woody Guthrie, John Steinbeck, and Will Rogers. It talked about the progressive roots of Oklahoma. He's very proud of the work he put into those articles.
  • "I have received a lot of hate mail," said Dr. Hochenauer. He sees people try to distort material occasionally. At the beginning, he received a lot of threats for his Liberal ideas. He hasn't received too much hate mail lately.
  • Be unique. Good writing is the number one thing when having a successful blog.
  • Ensure that you have a really stable platform. It's difficult to move the posts from one blog site to another. He really likes blogspot and word press.
  • What you write and put out there will be there forever and will follow you. It's important to remember that.
  • He likes being lost in writing. It's kind of an escape from reality. "I think it centers me a lot."
  • "I still think there is a need for liberal media in Oklahoma." He thinks he will continue to blog for awhile. He thoroughly enjoys it. "I really hope we keep this independent journalism going."

High Slit Maxi Skirts.

the305abulous.com

I walked into work the other day and my co-worker was wearing the cutest skirt ever. It was a double slit maxi skirt. As soon as I left work, I got online and HAD to order one for myself. This will be a great piece to wear for my trip to California next week. I can't wait for mine to arrive in the mail on Friday.

These skirts are great because you can dress them down with a cute sandal or you can dress them up a bit with a heel. These are great for fall and I hope to see girls wearing them more often.
